DESCRIPTION: We have been retained by The New York Methodist Hospital to locate an Associate Director of Patient Access. Reporting to the VP of Hospital Administration, the Associate Director of Patient Access will ensure that Patient Access Services are performed efficiently throughout the hospital. He/she will be directly responsible for a staff of three supervisors plus 30 additional indirect reports. Responsibilities include: • Ensure that the staff is well trained in inpatient admissions, outpatient registrations, insurance verifications, pre-certifications and co-payment collections • Ensure appropriate incorporation of Financial Counseling for the under or uninsured • Direct Patient Access personnel in maintaining confidential patient information necessary to protect the medical center, patient and physician in accordance with regulations set forth by the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) • Direct and develop implementation of standards, processes and systems to enhance quality, consistency, efficiency and timeliness of responsibilities within the Patient Access Department • Work with Information Technology Services to deploy appropriate computerized access systems, including but not limited to ADT and Billing System, Cerner clinical information system and electronic verification systems • Assure regulatory systems/processes are in place such as software to perform medical necessity checking and issuance of an Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN), upgrade of the Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) online coordination of benefits form

EXPERIENCE: The successful candidate will have 5 years experience in managing patient access operations, with 2-3 years in a senior leadership role, preferably in a Union environment. He/she will know billing/collections procedures and regulations, demonstrate knowledge of ADT systems and related downstream impact of ADT feeds, understand Patient Access procedures to include requirements to produce compliant billing for Medicare/Medicaid and other payers and demonstrate experience in the design, documentation and implementation of workflows, policies and procedures. He/she must possess strong interpersonal communication, leadership, management and customer service skills. He/she must possess absolute integrity and honesty plus a confident personality for an aggressive, fast growing and dynamic environment. He/she must enjoy the challenge of building quality operations and overcome/solve issues/problems as they occur. He/she must be a self starter who is flexible, adaptable, learns quickly, finds resources and can be held accountable. He/she must be able to interact well with other department heads. He/she must be a creative problem solver who is diplomatic and a strong negotiator who can influence others in a positive manner. A Bachelors degree is preferred; a Masters degree is a plus.
